I dont believe so without saturating our living environment with so much EMF , 4G , 5G , 6G whatever ,

that the CARS WILL BE DRIVER-LESS BECAUSE ALL THE DRIVERS WILL BE DEAD , so unless A.I . robots need cars wont happen

ALL THE DRIVERS WILL BE DEAD

Maybe that's the idea.

as someone thats worked with robots at a couple of jobs and now drives about 150 miles a day i cant see it happening in the next 20 years to a competent level. like you said there are so many variables, each vehicle would need a full AI.

besides i like driving, its my best skill!

Yes, there doesn't seem much point in developing this any further. Even driver assist systems can be tricky at times, making assumptions about lane changes or speeds and so on.

And in geofenced environments like airports of shipping ports... what difference does it really make? Not worth the technological bother when most of the time you need a driver to get out and do something useful anyway. Just pay the driver!

Supermarkets were also supposed to be fully automated by now. I hear that the self service queues (never used one) are more bother than they're worth. Internet shopping and home delivery has more or less taken off though.

On the other hand... it looks like quite a few low end white collar jobs could be replaced by an app!

i have to turn off the traction control in the snow cos its useless, if they cant manage that..

i never use self service either, the one time i did i realised it was all too low and hurting my back.

ai may take some jobs but we will always need humans, the robots i used to work with, they were supposed to get rid of hand polishing components. 5 years after they were set up, every single component was still hand finished. colossal waste of time and money but they paid me well to tinker with them :)

I think they made the same mistake at Foxconn. They thought they could replace a bunch of assembly workers with the latest robots and they ended up bringing all the workers back!

I always favor automation if possible but obviously it has to at least match human competence or do a better job.

Looking at the way things are now it's clear that service workers and drivers need their jobs! Why even try to replace them. Who will buy products without disposable income?
